The following notes were included in an email from Heidi
to Bub on Sunday, January 9, 2005 before Parker's Fontan procedure:
Well, were are hanging in there as best we can. I have
definitely had my very stressful moments this weekend. There have been lots of hugs and encouraging words from friends
and family and they are wonderful and can bring on a rush of emotion. Between the 2 girls we had 6--yes 6--basketball
games this weekend. (They usually only have 2 games a weekend...thankfully) So we ran into a lot of friends ....
I feel good that I came out standing up both days! It was very difficult emotionally. So you asked for last minute
comments and I guess those are some and the words. Very stressed and scared come to mind too but we will get through this
all of us ....Parker, Frank. Lib, Ab and me too!
Parker underwent open heart surgery
using the Norwood I Procedure at Children's Hospital of Michigan on Tuesday, July 15th.
Here are Frank's reflections from 9:15 a.m.:
"Heidi and I arrived at the hospital this morning at 6:15
a.m. to spend time with him before surgery.
Parker was wide eyed and peaceful as if to tell us everything
would be alright. He was looking at us (Heidi, Grandpa Herbie, Grandma Judie and me) right up to the time they took
him to surgery. This was by far the longest period Parker has had his eyes open in his young life.
Parker is definitely feeling the love and prayers. He is
a special boy and we can't wait to hold him again."
